Will Young will feature on CBeebies, the BBC’s channel for children under six, to read a bedtime story about same-sex parents.
The gay singer has chosen the book ‘Two Dads’, a story about a boy who is adopted and raised by two fathers.
Young will appear on the channel’s popular Bedtime Stories show to mark LGBT History Month.
‘Recognised and celebrated’
Young previously endorsed same-sex parenthood in a 2017 interview for Evening Standard Magazine.
Two years on, he claims that “families in all forms should be recognised and celebrated – whether that’s two dads, two mums, families with a mum and a dad, those with a single parent, adoptive families and so on.
“I’ve never been more sure that inclusivity starts from the youngest possible age. I hope these stories will be used for years to come.”
Inclusivity
Will Young will appear on CBeebies’ Bedtime Stories on 9 February at 6.50pm.
The BBC will feature more LGBT stories on the show over the next few weeks to promote ‘inclusivity’ and celebrate LGBT lifestyles.
Actress and singer Sharon D Clarke is scheduled to read another LGBT book, ‘All Kinds of Families!’, later this year.
In 2016, the BBC also aired CBBC’s ‘Just A Girl’, a show targeted at six to twelve year olds, about a young boy taking hormone blockers and living as a girl.
