Pro-life students say vandals who dismantled their university abortion display will not stop them spreading “a culture of life on campus”.
Students for Life at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) had planted small blue and pink flags to represent aborted babies.
They created the display with official permission, but within 24 hours opponents had destroyed it.
‘Not human’
Students for Life captured the actions on camera. One person is shown claiming the flags merely represented “some cells that got flushed out”.
Another said the aborted babies were not children while a third promised to take the flags out again if the group reinstalled them.
After the removal, a pro-abortion flag display appeared with a banner stating: “This is a new flag garden representing the people here who believe you have the right to choose”.
Undeterred
Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life of America, said the incident showed that free speech was suffering on campus.
But she added: “Despite the vandalism, TCNJ Students for Life are not letting this deter them from continuing to promote a culture of life on campus.”
Grace Gottschling, Vice President of the group, said the students will remain “confident in our beliefs”.
Diversity
A spokesman for the university said: “The College of New Jersey respects and welcomes a diversity of opinions on campus, which is why the Students for Life Group received permission for their flag display from our division of Student Affairs.
“There will be a formal discussion with all parties involved to determine what next steps are appropriate.”
Last year in the UK, police had to be called as feminists disrupted an Oxford University discussion on abortion.
Protestors heckled for approximately forty minutes, chanting slogans and calling the speakers ‘anti-choice bigots’.
