Tens of thousands of pro-life supporters attended the recent March for Life in Washington DC, despite freezing conditions and Covid restrictions.
Under the theme ‘Equality Begins in the Womb’, marchers expressed the hope that the 49th annual protest against the legalisation of abortion on demand in the US could be the last.
They believe that a favourable Supreme Court judgment in June could pave the way to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling – as a result of which nearly 63 million babies have been killed by legal abortions in the US.
‘The ultimate discrimination’
March for Life President Jeanne Mancini told the gathering: “We are hoping and praying that this year, 2022, will bring a historic change for life.”
She called the march “the largest human rights demonstration in the world,” and branded abortion “the ultimate form of discrimination”.
We march towards a future where every human life is equally valued and protected – inside the womb and out.

Addressing the rally, Roman Catholic priest Mike Schmitz said: “Every child matters. Every woman matters. Every person matters.”

Marchers carried placards that read: “The future is anti-abortion” and “I am the post-Roe generation”.
Violation
In November, a group representing tens of thousands of medical doctors urged the Supreme Court to defend unborn babies as it prepared to rule on new pro-life legislation.
The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, which represents more than 30,000 health professionals, said: “The science is clear – at the moment of fertilization, a new distinct, living and whole human being comes into existence.
“Abortion, which is an action whose sole intent is to end this life, clearly violates the basic tenets of medical ethics.”
