Donald Trump has praised pro-life activists campaigning to protect the right to life of the unborn.
In an official letter addressed to pro-lifers in Kansas, President Trump said: “We all have a duty to defend the most basic and fundamental human right – the right to life.”
In contrast, Hillary Clinton has celebrated the Republic of Ireland’s vote to back abortion.
Values human life
President Trump thanked the committee of the National Right to Life Convention for their work in providing “a voice to the voiceless” and “protecting our Nation’s most vulnerable”.
“Each day you help spread compassion and promote the dignity of every human person.
“I am truly grateful for your efforts and I remain committed to continue working with you as we cultivate a world that values and respects every human life.”
‘Abortion is moral’
The previous week, former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton heaped praise on pro-abortion activists who campaigned for Ireland to legalise abortion.
Clinton, who has claimed that abortion is “right and moral”, called the Irish abortion referendum “an inspiring sight”.
Clinton made the comments during a visit to Trinity College Dublin, where she was awarded an honorary degree.
Ireland voted in May by 66.4 per cent to 33.6 per cent to repeal the Eighth Amendment.
Opposition from GPs
But in a recent survey, 69 per cent of Irish GPs said they do not plan to provide medical abortions.
A further 20 per cent said they are unsure and only eleven per cent said they would.
Sixty per cent of respondents said they did not believe abortions can be “safely provided” by GPs. Over three quarters added that they disagree with abortion on demand up to 12 weeks being “GP-led”.
