The Scottish Government must stop pushing gender ideology in schools, which endangers gender-confused children, a former educational psychologist has warned.
Writing in The Times, Carolyn Brown highlighted a large increase in pupils self-identifying as the opposite sex and those being referred to NHS Scotland’s gender identity clinic amid “a dearth of questioning” in schools.
She stated that there is “real naivety — if not arrogance — in the Scottish government’s refusal to listen and act on voiced concerns from women and families. This is critical in education”.
‘Unevidenced’
Brown criticised the Scottish Government’s 2021 guidance ‘Supporting Transgender Pupils in Schools’ for pushing an “unevidenced belief system”, which assumes that a “‘trans’ pupil exists because the pupil says so”.
She noted that there are often many other reasons for a young person’s gender-confusion, including “autism, anxiety, abuse, bullying, body hatred and social contagion” which need to be addressed.
The former educational psychologist emphasised: “There are growing numbers of detransitioners speaking out; they warn of the dangers of promoting the trans ideology to pupils. Detransitioners warn that transitioning not only did not help their mental health issues, it made them worse”.
“There is a pressing need to listen to these voices, and for education professionals to speak up about what is well established knowledge regarding child and teenage psychological development. What teenager does not feel uncomfortable in their own body? It is the job of all to reassure and support pupils to learn to accept their biological bodies and love themselves for who they are.”
‘Education not indoctrination’
Last month, an education conference highlighting the indoctrination of children in Scottish schools went ahead after LGBT activists attempted to shut it down.
‘Education not indoctrination’, organised by campaign group Hands Up Scotland, invited discussion from academics, parents and teachers on the pressure to shut down debate on issues in schools, including the promotion of LGBT ideology and the sexualisation of children through sex education.
But just days before the conference, it had to be relocated to The Tron Church, Glasgow. Agile City, the operators for the original venue Civic House, said its staff refused to work at the conference, claiming it ‘opposed their values and made them feel unsafe’.
