‘Railroading sex-swap Bill through Holyrood smacks of authoritarianism’

The Scottish Government is pushing through its radical gender self-ID plans at the expense of much needed debate, a campaigner has warned.

Noting “striking similarities” between the controversy in Scotland and the ‘trans law’ “debacle” in Spain, campaigner Raquel Rosario Sánchez has called for the voices of opponents to be heard.

Spain’s bitterly contested ‘La Ley Trans’ would allow sex-swaps by self-declaration for those over 16 and permit children as young as 12 to change their legal sex with the approval of a judge.

Rosario Sánchez, writing as a member of the feminist collective Against the Erasure of Women, explained: “I am campaigning for open debate.

“Our international alliance is made up of former parliamentarians, barristers, academics and front-line workers in the battle to stop violence against women.

“The equality ministry refuses to meet any of us, while keeping an open door to trans lobbyists.”

She continued: “Politicians in Scotland determined to fast-track self-ID into legislation would do well to pay attention to the debacle unfolding in Spain.

“If feminist campaigners like me are right, then women’s sex-based rights and the safeguarding of vulnerable children hang in the balance.

“If we are wrong, then our concerns deserve to be refuted with evidence. Either way, democracy and the public deserve an open and sensible debate. Anything less is authoritarianism.”
