A pastor of an Edinburgh church has shared the hope of Jesus with MSPs at Holyrood at a time of “many challenges and anxieties”.
David Nixon, Associate Pastor at Carrubbers Christian Centre, told MSPs assembled in the chamber during the Scottish Parliament’s Time for Reflection that despite humanity’s sin, God in his love didn’t remain distant from our “confusion and chaos, misery and meaningless, injustice and inhumanity”.
He said: “Instead, Jesus has written himself into the story of this world. He’s become one of us – he suffered among us, he’s died on the Cross for us for our sins, he’s risen again from the dead showing that evil does not have to have the last word on any of our lives.”
‘Gospel proclaimed’
Pastor Nixon quoted the promise of John 3:16 that whoever trusts in Jesus “should not perish but have eternal life”, saying “I pray that many will find fresh hope and help in the true story of Jesus” this winter.
In an exclusive interview with The Christian Institute, the pastor reported that after his address a non-Christian MSP had turned to a Christian colleague to say it “was one of the more interesting reflections that he had heard in a long time”.
He said “we’re praying that God’s word will be effective” for that non-Christian MSP and for all those who have shared and watched the video on social media, which has been viewed thousands of times.
Concluding, he reflected: “I think many Christians have been encouraged who have watched it just to see that the Gospel was proclaimed in a public place in our land.”
