Mum: ‘Pro-trans school turned my child against me’

A mother has shared how her gender-confused daughter’s school reported her to social services for challenging its trans-affirming ideology.

Writing anonymously in The Times, she explained that when she raised concerns at the school ‘socially transitioning’ her child she was labelled “dangerous and abusive”.

Earlier this year, a court in Switzerland ordered parents of a gender-confused 16-year-old girl to hand over documents which will enable her to change legal sex.

Influence

The concerned mum explained that her daughter was bullied as a young girl and initially identified as a lesbian.

But when a gender-confused woman who had undergone a double mastectomy spoke to the school class, she began talking about being ‘born in the wrong body’.

The unidentified speaker talked about her struggle with suicidal thoughts, and how “now she was a male everything was easier”.

The mother shared: “I think it is dangerous to raise suicide in that setting, among 13-year-old girls going through puberty whose bodies are changing. But I couldn’t have objected — the talk was kept secret. We parents only found out about it six months later.”

GP’s fears

Her daughter then joined the school’s LGBT club and asked to see a GP and be referred to the Tavistock clinic.

The mother explained: “It seemed obvious to me that this was an idea that would be challenged. I was really shocked at how quickly everything was set in motion.”

She added: “Afterwards the GP told me there was no evidence for treatment but that she feared for her job if she didn’t refer.

“It’s one thing for teenagers to have mixed-up feelings. It’s another for adults to recommend things they think are not true or are bad ideas.”

Social services

At school, her daughter’s name and pronouns were changed, but when she challenged this, the school referred her and her husband to social services.

She recounted: “When we objected, she had adults at her school telling her we were abusive, that our home was unsafe.”

However, social services agreed with her, and said they had been “undermined as parents”.

Strained relationship

Now her daughter is an adult, and though she has not yet taken medication to ‘transition’ and seems to have moved away from the online trans community, her relationship with her parents is strained.

The mother explained: “My guess is that, deep down, she knows her dad and I have done the right thing, but it’s difficult as so many people have told her we’re malevolent.”

She shared how she has since found a support group for parents of trans-identified young people with “more than 600 families there, in shock at their children being taken from them”.

Switzerland

In Switzerland, a legal battle is underway after a child was separated from her parents due to them not affirming her ‘gender identity’.

The unnamed parents discovered their daughter’s gender confusion in 2021 following other mental health concerns. But after they challenged her school for ‘socially transitioning’ her without their consent, she was placed in a Government-funded youth shelter in April 2023.

Now, after failing to regain their parental authority, they are appealing against a court order that forces them to provide documents which would enable her to change legal sex.

The parents stated that they “can’t believe we live in a society where your child can be taken away from you simply for trying to protect her. We want our daughter back home. We love her and we miss her”.
