An MP has been criticised for branding people ‘hysterical’ for believing that men should not be allowed to access female-only spaces.
Zarah Sultana, MP for Coventry South, criticised plans to protect single-sex facilities such as toilets and changing rooms, and claimed that there has been “a growth of extreme and transphobic hysteria” from “transphobic organisations and individuals”.
Parent group Transgender Trend said her comments are part of a “sustained attempt to smear any individuals and organisations who have raised questions” on the issue.
Privacy
Sultana made the comments in a letter to Liz Truss, the Minister for Women and Equalities, in which she urged her to disregard the views of the so-called “hateful minority”.
Following a post of the Labour MP’s letter on Twitter, many groups and individuals were quick to highlight the real impact such a move would have on women.
One said: “I hope you have noticed how many women are replying here, and how many of them object to the casual use of the term ‘transphobic’ to describe those who disagree with you.”

It comes amidst increasing opposition to those who state that biological sex is real.
Actor George Takei, famous for his role as Lieutenant Sulu in Star Trek, recently claimed: “When you defend so-called ‘biological sex,’ you sound scientifically ignorant and you elevate transphobia.”
