The US state of Massachusetts has launched a government-funded smear campaign against pro-life pregnancy centres.
In collaboration with Reproductive Equity Now Foundation, the Department of Public Health used a $1 million investment to push women to avoid pro-life centres. One advert claimed that such centres “mislead you about your options” and “put your health at risk”.
Pro-life centres, which outnumber abortion centres in Massachusetts by more than two to one, often provide services such as free ultrasounds, parenting classes and baby products.
Anti-life ‘boasts’
Governor Maura Healey claimed that the state is committed to “protecting and expanding access” to abortion, which includes “protecting patients from the deceptive and dangerous tactics that anti-abortion centers often use to stop people from accessing comprehensive reproductive services”.
Reproductive Equity Now Foundation’s President Rebecca Hart Holder branded pro-life centres a “public health threat”, and boasted that the group aims to “combat anti-abortion centres’ predatory practices”.
But Lisa Bourne, Managing Editor of Pregnancy Help News, said the accusations are “disconnected from the the reality of pregnancy help”. In fact, she emphasised that such centres “both improve and save lives”.
Millions
Earlier this year, it was reported that over $350 million of services and goods were provided countrywide to save unborn lives and support vulnerable families during 2022.
The Charlotte Lozier Institute, Care Net, Heartbeat International, and National Institute of Family and Life Advocates said the demand on service providers was “increasing daily” following the overturning of Roe v Wade.
Last year, it was estimated that at least ten thousand unborn lives had been saved from abortion in the two months following the Supreme Court ruling on 24 June 2022.
