Justin Bieber’s mother is producing an anti-abortion film, after she resisted pressure to terminate her son when she was 17 years old.
Pattie Mallette is hoping screenings of the documentary “Crescendo” will raise $10 million for centres in America that try to deter women from having abortions.
She said: “I hope the film will encourage young women all over the world, just like me, to let them know that there is a place to go, people who will take care of you and a safe home to live in if you are pregnant and think you have nowhere else to turn”.
Pushed
Pattie Mallette says she was pushed to have an abortion when she was a teenager and pregnant with Justin, but refused.
She wrote in her memoir: “I just know I had to keep him. I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best, and I was determined to do whatever it took.”
Pattie Mallette’s relationship with her son’s father broke down, and she largely raised Justin with the help of her parents.
Killing
In 2011, Justin Bieber said he really does not “believe” in abortion, describing it as “killing a baby”.
The film is being shown at 100 screenings on 28 February.
