Stonewall’s radical trans ideology should not displace the reality of biological sex in NHS guidance, a Government Minister has said.
Health Minister Will Quince has cautioned NHS trusts in England against succumbing to Stonewall capture, after a Daily Mail investigation uncovered the involvement of the LGBT lobby group in writing gender policies for dozens of NHS trusts in England.
The Daily Mail exposed the hand of Stonewall in guidance produced by 30 trusts, and 65 respondents to Freedom of Information requests made by the newspaper said they admitted men who claimed to be women to female-only wards.
Transgender ideology
When asked by Times Radio whether the controversial pro-trans group should be helping the NHS draw up its policies on gender, Quince answered: “In my view, no.”
During the interview he said that he would like to see trusts writing their own policies “without the help of organisations like Stonewall”.
Addressing the issue of biological males being treated on female-only wards, he said: “We can never put ideology over facts and indeed the concerns of patients and staff.”
He continued: “biology is of fundamental importance, as is the feelings and best interests and indeed safety of staff and patients and I hope – and sincerely hope – that trusts will always be putting that at the front of mind”.
‘Appalled’
A spokesman for the Prime Minister, commenting on the number of hospital trusts admitting men to women-only wards, said it was “crucially important” that women’s rights to privacy are “protected”.
He went on to say that NHS England had “spoken to trusts about their responsibilities” and that, together, they were expected to take “the appropriate action”.
And a source close to Health Secretary Steve Barclay reported that he was “appalled” at the “woke virtue-signalling” by some NHS managers.
Stonewall claimed it was entirely “appropriate” for it to share its expertise with public bodies on ‘understanding and meeting the needs’ of LGBT people.
