Young detransitioners have told a California school board not to promote gender ideology in the classroom because of the devastating impact on young lives.
Chloe Cole, Cat Cattinson and Abel Garcia raised their concerns during a Conejo Valley Unified School District board meeting, hitting out at its pro-trans policies that “allow confused children to come to harm”.
A group of former trans-identifying youth, including Cole and Cattison, recently formed Detrans United, a network to support detransitioners and voice their “dissent against ‘gender affirming care’”.
‘Direct harm’
The meeting was streamed online, during which Cole shared her story of gender confusion. She spoke of how she had received puberty-blocking drugs at 13, before quickly moving onto cross-sex hormones and then undergoing a double mastectomy aged just 15.
She said that, contrary to widespread claims by pro-trans activists, “waiting is not the worst part of getting a mastectomy”, explaining: “Very quickly, I was given what I wanted, but it was far from what I needed.”
She warned: “This is what happens when children are sexualized and exposed to developmentally inappropriate and confusing content and ideas from a young age.
Very quickly, I was given what I wanted, but it was far from what I needed.
“This is what happens when we treat children like adults and expect them to have the mental faculties for proper long-term decision making. You are placing children in direct harm.”
Cannot understand
Male detransitioner Abel Garcia, agreed.
Garcia, 25, went through ‘transition’ at 19 and received breast implants when he was 21.
You are placing children in direct harm.
He added: “I cannot expect a child — a high school, middle or elementary child — to understand the full extent of the damages that will be done to their bodies if an adult like myself wasn’t able to.”
‘Irreversible’
Cat Cattinson, who was introduced to gender ideology when she was 13 years old, said: “Minors cannot consent to these irreversible changes.
“Children need to be told by teachers and the school that humans cannot change sex. It’s impossible. And trying to appear as the opposite sex comes with significant health risks, such as infertility and osteoporosis”, Cat added.
“There is a serious lack of quality research that any of these interventions improve mental health or prevent suicide in the long term.”
Detransition Diaries
In a documentary released earlier this month, The Detransition Diaries, Cat and others share their journeys of gender confusion, transition, regret and detransition.
Planned Parenthood prescribed testosterone to Cat after a mere 30-minute phone call in early 2020.
She later received surgery after a 45-minute phone conversation and a referral letter for a double mastectomy without ever having been seen in person.
Cat eventually stopped taking the sex-swap drugs and returned to living as a woman.
