Greens who believe in the reality of biological sex are being intimidated into silence, supporters, members and former members of the Scottish Green Party (SCP) have said.
Over 40 activists, including the Party’s former leader Robin Harper, say “a chilling atmosphere of censure and fear within the Party” is silencing free speech on sex-based rights.
Last year, co-leader Lorna Slater compared those who defend biological sex to racists.
‘Essential freedoms’
Endorsing the ‘Women’s Declaration’, initiated by members of the Green Party of England and Wales, the signatories expressed profound concern that advocates of “sex-based rights are being silenced” in the SGP.

They said: “Women’s rights, based on the reality of biological sex, have been eroded within the SGP, as elsewhere in society. We believe the consequences of this are extremely damaging for women and girls”.
The Green activists called on the party to ‘actively support’ the “essential freedoms” outlined in the Declaration.
Women’s Declaration
The document states that: “Sex should not be confused with gender. Sex is a biological reality and is both the site of and the excuse for women’s oppression.”
It also maintains that women have the right to “female only spaces such as changing rooms, hospital wards, sanitary and sleeping accommodation, refuges, hostels and prisons”.
The statement upholds the right of women and girls “to organise themselves, as a sex, across a range of cultural, leisure, sporting, educational and political activities” and concludes: “Women and girls have the right to discuss policies which affect them, without being abused, harassed or intimidated.”
‘Ruling cabal’
Speaking to Holyrood magazine, Harper said there was a “ruling cabal” in the SGP which refuses to listen “to reason, to the rest of the party, where there are differences of opinion”.
Scottish Greens MSP Maggie Chapman expressed Party support for ‘Trans+ History Week’ – a new Stonewall-backed initiative to promote radical trans ideology from May 6 to 12 – claiming that those who disagree with radical gender ideology “peddle misinformation” and “hate” and are “on the wrong side of history”.
Chapman added that those with such views “hold a shameful position” that “aligns itself with the horrors of the past and twisted intolerances of today”.
