Abortion should be supported by every member of the US Democratic Party without exception, according to its Committee Chairman.
Thomas Perez claimed it was “not negotiable” that members give their backing to abortion on demand. His outspoken remarks came after Senator Bernie Sanders gave his endorsement to a party politician who has previously supported pro-life legislation.
Pro-life group, National Right to Life (NRTL), said Perez’s claim would force pro-life politicians from the party.
‘Radical platform’
NRTL President Carol Tobias said: “By forcing all Democrats to pledge fealty to the abortion industry’s extreme agenda, Tom Perez has completed the party’s transformation and sent the message the pro-life Democrats are no longer welcome”.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of pro-life lobby group Susan B. Anthony List, commented: “Never has it been so clear: on abortion, there is no room for dissent or exceptions among Democrats, only support for the party’s radical platform which calls for abortion on demand up until the moment of birth paid for by taxpayer dollars.”
House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has distanced herself from the claims made by her party colleague.
When asked if it were possible for a Democrat to hold pro-life views and still earn party support, Pelosi replied: “Of course.” She pointed out that she has served many years in the House of Congress with members who do not share her pro-abortion views.
Baby socks
Last week, a pro-life rally was held in Washington DC by Students for Life of America (SFLA). After the rally, attendees delivered 196,543 baby socks to the House of Congress, each one representing a baby that has been killed by abortion provider Planned Parenthood.
SFLA says it will continue collecting socks until it has 323,999 – the number of abortions carried out by Planned Parenthood each year.
