Dan Walker: ‘My faith gives me perspective’

Presenter, writer and broadcaster Dan Walker has spoken of the defining importance of Christianity to his life.

In an interview with the Guardian, Walker spoke of his love of broadcasting, but said that it is his Christian faith that gives him his sense of worth.

Walker, an evangelical Christian, has previously been vocal about how his faith in God shapes how he lives.

‘Fame, fortune and froth’

The presenter of Channel 5 news said: “The most important thing for me in terms of my faith – my Christianity – is that it gives me a sense of perspective.

“When it comes to the job, I love it, but I am not defined by my career.”

Walker continued: “I’ve met people in the industry who are so consumed by what others are saying about them or how their programmes are going down that they find it hard to function.

“Instead, I am led by what I call the ‘Fs’: the important Fs to me are family, friends and faith, and the things that don’t matter are fame, fortune and the froth that sometimes comes with the industry.”

Consistent

Last year, while competing on Strictly Come Dancing, Walker explained that he had asked not to wear a Halloween themed costume because he and his family do not celebrate it.

“Our kids”, he explained, “would normally go to a light party on Halloween weekend or whenever that might be and I couldn’t go on that programme and be a disingenuous dad”.

“Anybody who’s got children and they talk to their children about what they can do and what they can’t do and why they do things a certain way… And I can’t say, ‘Do as I say but not as I do’”, he added.
