A Cork City councillor has rebuked the notion that defending the reality of biological sex is ‘transphobic’.
Independent Councillor Albert Deasy explained that any criticism of transgender ideology is “misconstrued as an irrational phobia i.e. if you question this – you are a very, very bad person”.
Deasy told Gript Media that he voted against a council motion on standing “opposed to all forms of homophobia, transphobia and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people”, which would have tarred the “vast majority of people” who have “mainstream views” on the issue.
‘Detrimental’
The councillor explained: “There are very serious implications for single sex spaces, sports and the functioning of society, so this debate must be facilitated. Activists are demanding that biological women displace themselves, to their own detriment, in order to accommodate what is actually a theory.
it is the time to stand up and be counted
“This ideology, under the guise of so-called affirmative care, promotes the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery for minors. In addition, the ongoing furore surrounding the teaching of Gender Identity theory, as fact, in our curriculum, is proof positive that this issue is far from settled.”
He concluded: “This is no longer a remote issue, it is the issue of our time, and it will have direct negative repercussions for women and children, therefore it is the time to stand up and be counted.”
SPHE
Last year, members of the Oireachtas urged the Government to halt the rollout of the new Social, Personal, and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum amid concerns over sexually explicit material and content promoting transgender ideology being included among resource options for twelve to fifteen-year-olds.
Senator Sharon Keogan called on Education Minister Norma Foley to address the Seanad on the junior cycle SPHE curriculum, after allegations emerged of the resources being promoted to teachers on a Dublin City University course.
It followed previous concerns raised by Independent TD Carol Nolan and Fine Gael’s Charles Flanagan.
