Concerned MLAs: ‘Rainbow Project signposts children to GenderGP’

Controversial LGBT group The Rainbow Project has been directing gender-confused children to a notorious trans-affirming clinic, MLAs have reported.

A recent presentation by the lobby group to Stormont’s Education Committee inquiry into Relationships and Sexuality Education gave cause for several members to raise concerns about a link on its website to GenderGP.

Founded by disgraced medic Dr Helen Webberley, the private clinic based in Singapore provides information to children on how to obtain puberty blockers, despite a UK-wide ban on prescribing the experimental drugs to under-18s.

‘Serious issue’

During the meeting, DUP MLA Peter Martin asked LGBT activist Alexa Moore, the Campaigns and Communications Manager at The Rainbow Project, why their website provides a link to the controversial clinic.

Moore answered: “We don’t necessarily have a view on GenderGP, it is just one of the services that is out there for people.”

In matters arising, the DUP’s David Brooks pointed out that the clinic encouraged parents of gender-confused children to bypass the UK-wide ban by fraudulently getting the prescription for puberty blockers made out in the name of someone who is over 18.

He said: “It’s a very serious regulatory issue”. Consequently, he urged his fellow members to notify the Assembly’s Health Committee, the Department of Health, the General Medical Council, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.

Opposition

Committee Chair Nick Mathison (Alliance) commented that he did not have a “clear view on to what extent The Rainbow project are [sic] responsible for material on an external website”.

Alliance and Sinn Fein members argued that the matter was beyond the remit of the Committee. Mr Martin agreed to raise the matter with the respective authorities independently, in his capacity as an MLA.

The News Letter has since reported that The Rainbow Project has removed the link to GenderGP from its website.
