Churches in Wales may reopen from Monday 13 July, the First Minister has announced.
Mark Drakeford said that, subject to social distancing measures and other guidance, hairdressers, pubs, cinemas and churches can all reopen next week, alongside other indoor visitor attractions.
In an online statement, the Welsh Government said that from 13 July, “Faith leaders can begin to gradually resume services when they are ready to do so safely.”
Fellowship
The Christian Institute’s Deputy Director for Communications Ciarán Kelly welcomed the announcement: “It was time that the Welsh Government joined other parts of the UK in lifting the ban on communal worship.
“Christians in Wales will be glad to enjoy fellowship in person again.”
The Welsh Government’s statement added that its ministers will “take a week-by-week approach to the further lifting of restrictions”.
Churches in Scotland will also open from 15 July.
