An American football player has shared with US evangelical group The Gospel Coalition how he has been able to use his sporting talents to glorify God.
Kirk Cousins, who plays for the Washington Redskins in the NFL, said: “I want to honour God with my life, including my vocation and football career”.
“We serve an excellent God, and I want my product on the field also to be excellent because I believe that reflects well on him”, he added.
‘Follow Jesus’
I want to honour God with my life, including my vocation and football career.
Cousins was raised in a Christian home, but says it was in his teenage years that he fully committed his life to Christ and decided to “follow Jesus with all my heart”.
The quarterback leads a Bible study for his teammates and says that they are his “mission field”.
He also spoke out against the misconception that the NFL is a difficult workplace for Christians: “I don’t think it’s different than anyone else’s secular work environment.
“You have a lot of guys who are walking with the Lord, a lot of guys who are interested in spiritual things and want to learn more”.
Identity in Christ
This great truth means I have an identity, a foundation that can never be taken from me.
Speaking in a previous interview, Cousins described how Jesus is the “anchor” of his life.
“My identity is based upon His love for me and in my personal relationship with Him.”
“This great truth means I have an identity, a foundation that can never be taken from me”, he added.
