Children must learn about homosexual sex, say secularists

The National Secular Society (NSS) has called for children in Scotland to be taught about homosexual sex.

NSS said that the LGBTI-inclusive curriculum wouldn’t go far enough if it failed to teach about alternative sexual relationships, especially in religious schools.

It follows the announcement that Scotland will become the first country in the world to adopt an LGBTI curriculum.

Complaint

Stephen Evans, CEO of NSS, wrote to the Education Secretary demanding that the Scottish Government commits to “LGBTI-inclusive relationships and sex education, and that religious groups will in no way be allowed to impede the delivery”.

Evans also complained that Roman Catholic schools were teaching that homosexual acts are “morally wrong”.

Simon Calvert, Deputy Director of The Christian Institute, said: “Parents, pupils and teachers… don’t want to see controversial political agendas embedded across the curriculum”.

‘Incredible harm’

David Robertson, minister of St Peter’s Free Church in Dundee, added that the curriculum would “impose a doctrine and philosophy” on all Scotland’s children.

“I’ve seen the result of that already and I think it will cause incredible harm”, he said.

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said she was confident that the new guidance would be effective.
