Cancer free after terminal diagnosis, mum wants to ‘live life in gratitude to God’

A mother is giving thanks to God after been told she is cancer free having previously being given less than a year to live.

Jasmin David was given a terminal diagnosis after her previously treated breast cancer returned in 2019. This time, scans showed the cancer had spread to her lungs, lymph nodes and chest bone.

But after participating in a clinical trial with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, doctors say there is no longer any evidence of cancer.

Prayer

The mother of two grown-up children reflected: “I celebrated my 50th birthday in February 2020 while still in the middle of treatment and not knowing what the future held. Two and a half years ago I thought it was the end and I now feel like I’ve been reborn.”

Jasmin said she has decided to live her life “in gratitude to God”, explaining: “My Christian faith helped me a lot on this journey and the prayers and support from family and friends gave me strength to face the challenge.”

Her clinical trial, which involves Atezolizumab combined with an experimental drug, is set to continue until December 2023.

Legislation

Last year, a man who outlived two terminal illness diagnoses wrote to The Daily Telegraph warning against the introduction of assisted suicide to the UK.

Responding to late ex-cricketer Ray Illingworth’s call to legalise assisted suicide, Michael Parry said he had been diagnosed with a similar condition to that of the former England captain 19 years ago.

Earlier this year, the House of Lords voted against Lord Forsyth’s amendment to the Health and Care Bill, which sought to allow terminally ill adults to get help from doctors to kill themselves. It was the twelfth time since 1997 that proposals for assisted suicide related laws were not passed by UK parliamentarians.
