President Biden has attacked US states for passing laws that uphold protections for the unborn, following the US Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade.
In a taskforce meeting with top White House officials and abortion activists on the effect of such laws, Biden claimed the safeguards were “extremist”.
Over twelve states now protect unborn children from abortion in most circumstances, while several more have gestational limits in place.

In the meeting, US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona claimed abortion is required for students to “thrive in school and in life”.
He added that it “is critical to the wellbeing and success of our nation’s students. If you’re committed to student success, you must be committed” to abortion.
The Department of Health and Human Services also announced over $6 million in grants as part of a push to “expand access” to abortion across the US.
‘Illegal’
Last month, it was revealed that the US Government’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) wants to provide abortions at its medical facilities across the country, even though it could contravene state and federal law.
The VA stated that “irrespective of what laws or policies States may impose”, it intends to offer abortions for tens of thousands of veterans and their beneficiaries under its health care programmes.
But Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, stated: “Abortion is not health care – in fact it carries serious physical and mental health risks – and expanding abortion on demand into the VA is illegal, period.”
