The BBC is continuing to broadcast a one-sided view of transsexualism that will “further endanger the minds of young children”, The Christian Institute has warned.
The Institute spoke out in response to the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme featuring two young boys who are living as girls.
Since the filming began in 2015, the step-mother of one of the boys has also decided to start living as a member of the opposite sex. Alexandra now lives as a man known as ‘Alex’.
’99 per cent girl’
In the programme, a boy who uses the name ‘Lily’ discusses his transsexual desires.
The nine-year-old says he initially wanted to live as a girl to see if he would “be happier”.
“I feel 99 per cent girl, and 1 per cent boy”, he added.
The programme also shows Lily’s friend ‘Jessica’ who is a ten-year-old boy and has also been living as a girl.
‘Damaging’
The Christian Institute’s Head of Communications, Ciarán Kelly, questioned the BBC’s decision to broadcast “such damaging gender ideology”.
“Once again, the BBC has given a wholly one-sided view of those struggling to accept their true sex.
“They must know of those people like Walt Heyer who have recognised and re-embraced their true biological sex, but choose not to provide a balanced view.”
He added: “The Corporation has chosen to become the cheerleader for such damaging gender ideology.”
CBBC trans documentary
Last year, a nine-year-old girl became one of the youngest children in the UK to be given hormone blockers to ‘pause’ puberty. After being allowed to dress as a boy since she was around five, the girl, who calls herself ‘Jason’, started taking hormone blockers.
The child appeared on the Victoria Derbyshire programme with her mother, who praised a CBBC documentary about a transsexual teenager.
The girl’s father had previously called his daughter’s feelings ‘a phase’. But after she watched the programme, her father and mother ‘explained’ transsexualism to her and allowed her to ‘live as a boy’.
