A member of the House of Lords has accused the BBC of having “a convoluted sense of priorities” after it was prepared to advocate the rights of goldfish but not those of unborn children.
Lord David Alton of Liverpool cited a BBC article discussing the “injustice” suffered by fairground goldfish. It quoted a petition which read: “Fish feel pain and suffer just like us”.
In a withering assessment, Lord Alton complained that the corporation never addressed “the pain of a child in the womb” from abortion.
Call the Midwife
The BBC’s official style guide instructs its writers to use the term “anti-abortion rather than pro-life”, and to refer to heartbeat Bills as “so-called” heartbeat Bills.
The BBC came under fire earlier this year for pursuing a pro-abortion storyline in its popular Call the Midwife series.
