Members of the Pro-Life All-Party Parliamentary Group (Pro-Life APPG) have denounced new abortion guidelines released by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Fiona Bruce MP and Carla Lockhart MP expressed shock at the organisation’s call for all restrictions on abortion to be scrapped.
The new guidance contains over 50 recommendations, including abortion on request, the roll out of DIY abortion pill schemes and a call to end conscience protections.
Humanity denied
Writing for the Mail on Sunday, DUP MP and chair of the parliamentary pro-life group Carla Lockhart said the WHO was now “campaigning for the most extreme positions” on abortion.
She argued that radical policies, such as “calling for abortion on demand right up to birth and allowing sex-selective terminations”, were being “driven by hardened abortion campaigners” rather than public opinion.
Reflecting on her 12-week scan, showing the fully formed body of her son, she asked: “Why has it taken such a hardline view which pretends a baby has no humanity until it breathes its first breath?
“A view that denies every single one of those not yet born any of the ‘human rights’ the WHO so loudly exalts?”
‘Extremists’
Lockhart continued: “If one looks at the list of ‘experts’ it chose to consult ahead of issuing its new guidelines, a clue emerges.
“For the panel includes numerous individuals who work for major abortion providers or lobby groups”.
Noting panel representatives from abortion giants Planned Parenthood and MSI Reproductive Choices, Lockhart said the document “appears to have been written, to all intents and purposes, by the abortion industry.
“The WHO has allowed itself to be hijacked by these extremists.”
‘Shocking’
Co-chair of the Pro-Life APPG, Fiona Bruce MP, described the guidance as “completely unacceptable” and “truly shocking”.
She added: “A viable human being could have his or her life ended up to the point of birth. Yet a day, an hour, even moments later, similar action against a child could constitute murder.”
