A man has been jailed for six months after being found guilty of bigamy, having been spotted with his ‘second wife’ on the ITV show Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
Daniel Gundry was spotted by his wife Helen when he appeared on the popular primetime programme alongside Susan Brooker.
Gundry initially claimed he had not married Susan, but later admitted bigamy.
Helen and Susan
Daniel and Helen married in 1998 but separated in 2010. He met Susan a little later and they subsequently married in 2015.
He also attempted to reconcile with his first wife in 2015, trying to convince her to relocate to Dubai, where he was living with his other wife.
Helen saw the pair appear on the live TV show and after investigating her husband on social media, discovered he had married again in a ceremony abroad.
The court heard he had forged documents to procure the marriage.
Liar
After the sentencing, Helen and their daughter left the court in tears.
Mrs Gundry said: “He has been lying for a long time so I’m just glad that finally he’s been found out”.
Susan said: “Everything about our life was a lie. He was lying to me for about five years”.
“The husband that I had wasn’t my husband”, she added. “He’s submitted forged documents to the British Embassy. He’s lied to the church, the police – he’s lied to everyone.”
Humiliated
The district judge said he was guilty of deceiving both women and caused them both “embarrassment, shame and humiliation”.
Mr Gundry received a six month prison sentence. The maximum sentence for bigamy is seven years.
Each year in England and Wales there are on average 18 prosecutions for cases of bigamy, according to the BBC.
