US libraries that host ‘drag queen story times’ are blocking public readings of a children’s book promoting biblical values, a Christian actor-writer has said.
Kirk Cameron has only been able to secure readings at two public libraries for ‘As You Grow’, his book about love, joy and gentleness, and has been turned down by scores of others.
Last year, outraged parents raised concerns about a planned drag queen story hour library tour in the UK, which they said was “highly sexualised” and entirely unsuitable for three to eleven-year-olds.
Victory
Cameron told Fox News that his book, ‘As You Grow’, “teaches biblical wisdom through the seasons of life to children, and the value of growing the fruit of the Spirit”.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
He explained: “I wanted to do a book reading in a public library and I was denied by over 50 woke libraries that have hosted drag queen story hours.”
One library in Providence, Rhode Island, told the publisher: “No, we will pass on having you run a program in our space. We are a very queer-friendly library. Our messaging does not align.”
‘Indoctrination centres’
According to Cameron, libraries in Indianapolis and New York subsequently “changed their decision”, and the events went ahead.
He later thanked “all who showed up” at the book readings to “celebrate faith, hope and love and protect the hearts and minds of our children”.
Brent Talbot, the CEO of Cameron’s publishing house Brave Books, commented that it was “devastating to discover that many of our publicly funded libraries have now become indoctrination centres that refuse to allow biblical wisdom to be taught to our children”.
Talbot said that woke activists understand morality is instilled at an early age “and they want their morality to win, not the morality that the Bible teaches”.
