Christian athlete: ‘I was labelled a tumor in the womb’

A Christian athlete has shared the remarkable story of how his mother rejected abortion and instead chose life for him.

Former American Football player Tim Tebow spoke about his “special birth story” at a conference for Christian students in America, where he explained he had been described as a “tumor” before he was born.

Tebow has been outspoken about his Christian beliefs throughout his sporting career and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

‘Trust God’

She decided to trust God and not what the doctors were saying.

Born to missionary parents in the Philippines, Tebow said: “The doctors said that I wasn’t even a baby; they said I was a tumor.”

His mother Pam was advised to have an abortion, but she rejected the doctors’ judgement.

“She decided to trust God and not what the doctors were saying.”

‘Grateful’

Tebow, 30, went on to thank his “amazing” parents for raising him in a Christian home.

“I’m so grateful for their impact”, he added.

His pro-life story has previously featured in a Super Bowl advert on US television, reaching an audience of 100 million.

Bible verses

Tebow first came to prominence as a quarterback in US college football for regularly displaying Bible references on his face during games, such as Philippians 4:13.

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

Tebow went on to play professionally between 2010 and 2015, before switching to baseball with the New York Mets.

March for Life

Pam Tebow is set to speak at the world’s largest pro-life event, March for Life, in Washington DC today.

Hundreds of thousands of people took part in last year’s event, where Vice President Mike Pence was one of the guest speakers.

Pence promised that the US Government would do everything in its power to promote the sanctity of life and said that “life is winning again in America”.
