A teenage TV star who found fame on the sitcom Outnumbered has said that porn is warping this generation’s view on sex.
Tyger Drew-Honey criticised the easy access young people have to porn and said: “It feels like this generation is an accident waiting to happen”.
He made the comments ahead of his new BBC 3 documentary series exploring what it’s like being a teenager in Britain.
Porn movies
In one of the shows, Drew-Honey interviews his own parents who were heavily involved in producing and starring in porn movies.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he bemoaned how the internet has changed the availability of porn.
He said: “When it comes to porn, the internet has changed everything.
Warped
“You used to go to a shop and buy a DVD if you wanted to watch anything like that. But now all you have to do is type some words into Google and it’s all there for you –and it’s free.
“There are not enough barriers to stop really young kids watching it.
“It replaces sex education and there is a whole generation who are growing up with a really warped view about what sex should be about.
“It feels like this generation is an accident waiting to happen because of our easy access to porn from such a young age.”
The series ‘Tyger On’, which begins on May 15, will also investigate topics including internet dating and body image.
Prosecution
In March, a committee of MPs called for pornography websites which do not prevent children accessing them to be prosecuted.
A report from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee warned that publishing adult material online which is “readily available to children” could be against the law.
A study from video watchdog the Authority for Television on Demand (ATVOD) showed that one in 20 UK visitors to adult websites during December 2013 were under 18.
It concluded that at least 200,000 children under 16 watched porn in a single month in 2013.
